Cobwebs
on the door
I remember a sequence in an old horror movie. The camera zoomed
in on a door covered in dust and cobwebs. It stood there as the
very image of gloomy mystery. No one had opened it in years.
What was behind it?
The picture reminds me of the door to our private Room of Prayer.
It is easy to get a curtain of cobwebs in front of the door to
planned prayer. Before you know, thick layers of dust may cover
the doorhandle.
There are so many doors to open every day: The door to the job
and to the mall, to cleaning and cooking, to family and friends.
Suddenly we do not have time to open the door to the silence
where we can meet God.
But the more time passes between each time you open this special
door, the more gloomy and cobweb-covered does it look. Finally,
you feel only discomfort when you see it.
But it's unwise to downgrade the time to talk to God.
To use your chamber of prayer regularly, is to use of your right
as a child of God, the very right that Jesus purchased for you.
Purchased with his death and resurrection.
And here it is quite the opposite of any horror movie. Here,
it feels creepy just as long as you do not open.
When you open, you'll find light shining through open windows.
Windows that are open to a heaven and a Father who always want
to channel all his love into your life.
